Baby teeth hold space for the permanent ones, so it's important they stay until they fall out naturally. Sometimes, though, they need to be removed earlier, because of heavy decay, infection, injury, or when the permanent tooth is already coming through and the baby tooth won't budge.

When to see us
- The permanent tooth is coming in behind a baby tooth that won't fall out
- A badly decayed baby tooth with pain or swelling
- An abscess or gum boil above a baby tooth

Why not wait for the tooth to fall out on its own?
If the baby tooth is infected, the infection can affect the developing permanent tooth. And if it's in the way, the permanent tooth may grow in crooked.
